About
Ikuyu Madin, or “Bridging from Generation to Generation”, was the rallying cry and fundraising theme for the Hawaii Okinawa Plaza.
This donor recognition display is dedicated to the many generous contributors from Okinawa who shared the vision of the Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA) of sustaining our beautiful Okinawan culture for our future generations. Individuals, Community Organizations, Corporations, Businesses, Organizations and Government all rallied with the tireless dedicated efforts of the Hawaii Okinawa Plaza Fundraising Committee, a sub-committee of our sister organization in Okinawa: Okinawa Hawaii Kyokai (OHK). This display lists the many donors from Okinawa who contributed to this project between 2013 and 2020. It lists the organizations they represent and where they are from in Okinawa. Okinawa’s generosity resulted in over 120,000,000 Yen contributed to the project (over $1.05M). HUOA extends its deepest gratitude to Okinawa and each donor who believed and shared our dream.

Hawaii Okinawa Plaza
The Hawaii Okinawa Plaza was created to be an income-producing property that will ensure the sustainability and long-term goals of the Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA). The first phase which consists of a two-story commercial office building opened its doors in late 2019 with a collection of community service businesses. The Hawaii Okinawa Plaza will provide support to HUOA and its many cultural programs as well as the upkeep and capital improvements of the Hawaii Okinawa Center. This accomplishment took years in the making and would not have been possible without the help and support of the over 1,200 donors in Hawaii and Okinawa.
Ikuyu Madin
Ikuyu Madin is a Uchinaaguchi (Okinawan Language) term meaning an eternity. It was used for the Hawaii Okinawa Plaza campaign for “Bridging from Generation to Generation”
The Ikuyu Madin message is befitting as the project and the spirited efforts of countless hands to bring this project to fruition provided further awareness of our unique and vibrant Okinawan culture, strengthened bonds with our Hawai’i and Okinawa communities, and ultimately serves to provide a sustained resource of support to the mission of the Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA) to promote, preserve, perpetuate the Okinawan Culture in Hawai’i.
HUOA is eternally grateful for our member support, and the generous efforts and contributions from the Hawai’i and Okinawa communities. Ikuyu Madin represents an eternity and something everlasting. Your unwavering support assures that for our culture and Hawai’i Okinawa Community will thrive for generations to come. Ippee Nifee Deebiru!
